This marks month two of our series in which we feature a United Way Partner Agency’s client experience, demonstrating the impact that donations to United Way of Sheboygan County are making. This month’s client experience comes from Family Service Association’s Budget and Credit Counseling Program, also known as Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Sheboygan.
As the newest Director of Community Development at the United Way of Sheboygan County, I invite you to meet me at the United Way. Why? Because what happens at the United Way or because of the United Way, or with the United Way should matter to you. The United Way touches the lives of everyone in the community.
On Thursday, February 4, 2016, more than 180 individuals attended the first annual Spirit of Sheboygan Volunteer Awards, recognizing 49 individual volunteers, group organizations, and corporate partners in their support of volunteerism in Sheboygan County. At the event, sponsored by HSA Bank, Johnsonville Sausage, Kohler Company, and Sargento Foods, 10 award winners were announced.

When I was introduced to the Sheboygan County Community Partnership for Children Coordinator position, I was very excited of the possibility to be involved with this new initiative. With my background in marketing and development in support of education programs at a local nature center, I related to the importance of early learning and supporting families. Each community has many resources in support of child development, and creating a partnership that capitalizes on these opportunities is important.
For the past few months, the United Way Volunteer Center has been accepting nominations for the upcoming Spirit of Sheboygan Volunteer Awards. When the deadline for nominations came, we closed the day with more than 80 nominations coming from individuals, non-profit organizations and company representatives. After intense review of all of the applications by members of the Volunteer Center Advisory Committee, the following finalists were selected to be recognized in each category:

In less than one month, the United Way Volunteer Center plans to honor and celebrate 50+ volunteers from Sheboygan County! We will hold the first annual Spirit of Sheboygan Volunteer Awards on Thursday, February 4, at 11:30 a.m. in the Blue Harbor Conference Center. In addition to presenting awards in nine categories, and recognizing the top five nominees in each category, we will also be announcing the total volunteer impact of 2015, including total number of volunteers, volunteer hours, and the monetary value that the nonprofit agencies see from those volunteer hours.
