United Way of Sheboygan County, the Sheboygan Area School District and Random Lake School District have issued a Request for Information/Request for Proposal (RFI/RFP) to organizations interested in developing the School-Based Mental Health Access Project (Providing Access to Healing – PATH).
Imagine for a moment what our community would look like 18 years from now if, today, we joined together and made a commitment to ensure that every child is ‘born learning’.
On March 21, 2014, over 300 people participated in a Community Conversation about Mental Health and Alcohol & Drug Abuse. Attendees shared stories, expressed their appreciation for services and programs and identified that more work needed to be done to address three major areas: Access, Education and Coordination.
If there’s one thing that the staff at United Way can’t do enough of, it is to say ‘Thank You’. Thank you to our more than 200 volunteers throughout the year, thank you to the more than 10,000 individual donors and companies that support our annual campaign and thank you to the more than 25 restaurants that participated in this year’s Dine Out for United Way as well as all the diners who patronized those establishments during participating times.
Every year, something remarkable happens in Sheboygan County – thousands of individuals and companies donate approximately two million dollars to help the community through United Way of Sheboygan County (UWSC). These dollars make a real impact on the lives of local people through programs and services administered through this United Way and our affiliate agencies.
At United Way of Sheboygan County, we are so grateful to our donors. Each year, more than 250 companies and 10,000 individuals contribute to the United Way campaign in different ways. Many companies hold corporate campaigns, many individuals give directly or through their employer’s campaigns, and for the past four years, restaurants in Sheboygan County have participated through Dine Out for United Way.
As bystanders, we’ve watched it happen and done nothing. Kids being mean to other kids – saying cruel things, putting others down, perhaps even physically abusing their companions. Do you write it off as the way kids are, or do you do something to stop it? In the past, common wisdom was to “let kids be kids”. Let’s change the way we deal with bullying. Say something – do something – when you see a child being bullied. The benefits are significant, and may be life-long.
I’ve been on staff with United Way now for about five months and wow….what a journey it has been so far.! With most of my time dedicated to the Volunteer Center, I’ve delighted in going around to our member agencies to learn more about their organizations and their specific volunteer needs. Even though I live in this community and have spent my entire career working in the nonprofit world, I continue to be amazed at the diverse organizations that make up our nonprofit sector in Sheboygan County. What a caring and generous community we all call home.
