Who's Leading the Way?

by Laura Schwartzburg

The United Way of Sheboygan County is entering into a time of transition that will stretch over the course of this year’s campaign, but is well-positioned to continue to serve the community with a strong and dedicated Board of Directors representing a variety of sectors from across the county with years of experience in their professional and volunteer roles.

As Jon Doll enters into retirement, the United Way celebrates the good work that has been achieved and extend gratitude for the energy Jon invested in leading United Way.  The Board of Directors has confidence that Tom Malmstadt, as Executive Director, with vast leadership experience and extensive knowledge of the local communities we serve, will continue to strengthen the ability of the United Way and its partner agencies to improve the lives of people in Sheboygan County.

Malmstadt will continue as District Administrator for the Random Lake School District for the upcoming school year, and will join United Way on January 1, 2017 in a part-time role as Executive Director until June 30, 2017. After that time, he will assume the full-time role.

To assist with the transition, Laura Schwartzburg, current director of community development, will be promoted to Deputy Executive Director starting July 1, 2016. Schwartzburg joined United Way of Sheboygan County in January 2016. Her previous experience includes various leadership roles in fundraising and marketing and she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Science of Organizational Leadership & Quality, both from Marian University. She has recently resigned as of July 2017.

“We have a strong team of professionals who are very capable and knowledgeable, “said Schwartzburg. “We’ve also got a strong group of United Way funded partner agencies doing the critical work in the community. The Board established a strong and viable strategic plan that will continue to guide the direction of the organization. My role in the transition will be to provide leadership oversight as needed until Tom is fully on-board while continuing to build and strengthen relationships within the community, for the benefit of the community.”

United Way strives to build a stronger and healthier Sheboygan County through effectively facilitating community resources, convening broad dialogue and focusing on the areas of highest need.
