by: Adam Payne, United Way of Sheboygan County Board President
Effective January 1st, Tom Malmstadt is the new Executive Director of the United Way of Sheboygan County. He will serve in a part-time capacity until he retires from the Random Lake School District as Disctrict Administrator in June.
Tom’s resume includes more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles within the Random Lake, Plymouth and Kohler School Districts. His education includes a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education, both from University of Wisconsin-Stout. In addition, Tom earned his District Administrator Certification and Principal Certification from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Tom brings a wealth of experience and has dedicated his life to helping children and families be successful. Under his leadership, and with his extensive knowledg of the local communities we serve, the United Way will continue to strengthen our ability to improve the lives of peope in Sheboygan County.
Before accepting the position as Executive Director, Tom collaborated with the United Way on the implementation of the PATH (Providing Access to Healing) Program, which places licensed therapists directly in the school setting to counsel students. This pilot program began in the Random Lake School District and The Etude Group for the 2015-16 school year and expanded to include the Plymouth School District and Head Start.
Being able to treat students within the school setting is an effective way to combat mental health issues, and we are already seeing significant positive outcomes. PATH effectively removes barriers to care that many students face, such as transportation to appointments or costs related to uninsurance or underinsurance.
United Way of Sheboygan County works to understand and address primary community needs, and to bring people together to help solve problems. As Board President, one of the most critical duties I was charged with was selecting a leader that has the character and qualities needed to lead United Way into the future. I, along with the Board of Directors, are looking forward to working alongside Tom to better the community through United Way.
Please join us in welcoming Tom Malmstadt, and thank you for your community service and support.
