Tis the Season for United Way

by Emily Rendall-Araujo

Tis the season! Although I’m sure we’ll start hearing holiday tunes in stores sooner than we’d like, that’s not the season I’m writing about. It’s United Way season!

Governor Scott Walker has declared September and October, 2014, as United Way Months throughout Wisconsin. And to support this declaration, we are participating in many ways.

The 2014 United Way Campaign is rolling and several fun events are coming up. This Thursday, September 11, will feature Taste Sheboygan at Fountain Park from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Sampling stations will be provided by many restaurants, including 8th Street Ale Haus, Three Guys & a Grill, Bent Spoon Gelato, Black Pig Sheboygan, Gyros2Go, Weather Center, Bourbon Street, Sly’s, Champs, Weimann’s, Holidays, Black Pig Elkhart Lake, BoMallies, South Pier Ice Cream Parlor, and Highland House. Bring your family or meet friends at Taste Sheboygan on Thursday night to have a great time and support United Way. Proceeds contribute to the 2014 Campaign.

Next week Thursday, September 18, features the official kickoff of the campaign, held at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls. A full breakfast buffet will be served at 7:30 a.m. with program at 8 a.m., featuring the testimonials of two families that benefit from United Way programs directly. Cost is $15 per person and is open to the public. To register, call (920) 458-3425 or email DeeAnn@UWofSC.org.

Finally, make sure save the date for the third annual Harvest for the Hungry, a fundraiser for United Way administered by Kohler Hospitality Group and Sargento Foods, on October 21. At $12 for an adult meal or $7 for a children’s meal, this is a great opportunity to enjoy signature dishes prepared by some of our county’s top chefs and support United Way at the same time. Dine in with friends for lunch, bring take-out meals back to the office, or bring the family for dinner.  Or, enjoy both lunch and dinner! More information will come.

I hope to see you at one, two or all three of these events. Celebrate United Way Months with us!
