September 8 is United Way Day from Dawn to Dusk!

by Alister Kohls, intern

Although the summer weather appears elusive and we all appreciate this calm and relaxing weather, summer will soon have come and gone as my favorite season approaches: Autumn. Autumn is a special time for United Way, as we kick off the campaign for giving and celebrating our community’s collective efforts to bring together and improve the Sheboygan County we all love.

This year, on Thursday September 8, United Way of Sheboygan County will be starting the season of giving with our Campaign Kickoff, Day of Caring, and Taste Sheboygan in an all-in-one dawn to dusk experience. The all-day series of events will bring together individuals, corporate teams, and businesses from Sheboygan County for a day full of community building.

First thing in the morning at 7:30 a.m., all Day of Caring volunteers and community members are invited to attend the 2016 Campaign Kickoff, held at the Sheboygan A’s Ballpark. Hear from 2016 Campaign Co-Chairs Todd & Karri Neils, United Way Board President Adam Payne, and incoming Executive Director Tom Malmstadt. And of course, the United Way of Sheboygan County Business Champions will be back for year two of the Mascot Race. Will Kohler Co.’s Moxie keep the title? You’ll have to be there to find out!

After the morning kickoff, the Day of Caring will feature many gracious volunteers and corporate sponsors all over the county lending a helping hand to the betterment of our beloved community. More than 500 volunteers, both individual and teams, will head out in the morning to approximately 40 project sites where their generous time and abilities will be utilized to improve small but important parts of our community. Together, we can create a better Sheboygan County.

After the Day of Caring events wind down in the afternoon, volunteers and the public are encouraged to visit downtown Fountain Park for Taste Sheboygan! The event will feature many area restaurants including: 8th Street Ale Haus, Urbane, Sprechers, Nicky’s Pizza, Three Guys and a Grill, Black Pig, Ranieri’s Four of a Kind, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, Sly’s Midtown Saloon, and more! Each restaurant will feature snack-sized portions allowing attendants to taste all the flavors Sheboygan has to offer.
