September 14 is United Way Day!

by Emily Rendall-Araujo

Summer will soon have come and gone as my favorite season approaches: Autumn. Autumn is a special time for United Way, as we kick off our annual campaign and celebrate our community’s collective efforts to bring together and improve the Sheboygan County we all love.

This year, on Thursday September 14, United Way of Sheboygan County will be starting the season of giving with our Campaign Kickoff, Day of Caring, and Taste Sheboygan in an all-in-one dawn to dusk experience. The all-day series of events will bring together individuals, corporate teams, and businesses from Sheboygan County for a day full of community building.

First thing in the morning at 7:30 a.m., all Day of Caring volunteers and community members are invited to attend the 2017 Campaign Kickoff, held at the Sheboygan A’s Ballpark. Enjoy a breakfast provided by United Way Partner Agency Nourish and sponsors Sargento Foods, Johnsonville Sausage and Torke Coffee. And of course, the United Way of Sheboygan County Business Champions will be back for year two of the Mascot Race. Who will win this year? You’ll have to be there to find out!

After the morning kickoff, the Day of Caring will feature many gracious volunteers and corporate sponsors all over the county lending a helping hand to the betterment of our beloved community. More than 500 volunteers, both individual and teams, will head out in the morning to approximately 30 project sites where their generous time and abilities will be utilized to improve small but important parts of our community. Together, we can create a better Sheboygan County.

After the Day of Caring events wind down in the afternoon, volunteers and the public are encouraged to visit downtown Fountain Park for Taste Sheboygan! This year’s event will again bring restaurants from throughout the city together to offer samplings of their finest fare.

We are still accepting group and individual volunteers for the day. To volunteer, contact Lee Anne Raleigh at leeanne@uwofsc.org or (920) 458-3425. For more information about the entire day and to sign up for the Kickoff Breakfast only, please visit uwofsc.org/events. We hope to see you at some point throughout the day!
