Partner Spotlight: Rainbow Kids

United Way currently invests in their: Children & Adult Grief Support

Rainbow Kids provides a 10-week program peer support groups for children, teens, and adults who are grieving a loss due to death, divorce, separation, incarceration, or abandonment. Group participants with trained facilitators to address the issues confronted in family loss situations. This is not counseling. The purpose of these support groups is to provide the participants an opportunity to share their feelings in an accepting environment supported by trained, caring, compassionate adults.

Fast Facts:

  • Children become comfortable in a group setting and begin sharing with others in their group of peers. They will begin to learn that they are not alone. Once the children are comfortable sharing in a safe, trusting environment they are able to interact more freely. Children begin to understand their emotions and begin to identify their feelings and how to process them.
  • Parents or adult caregivers may be too overwhelmed by their own needs to provide the emotional support their children need. Parents need to understand and process their own grief and tune in to their child’s grief. Too often we grieve silently, and alone.
