United Way currently invests in the two following programs at Lakeshore CAP:
- Rental Assistance
- Community Response
Rental Assistance: The program works with two populations. The first is those who are in imminent risk of homelessness, as they are soon to be evicted, and the second are those who are living on the streets or in a shelter. The program works to provide eligible households safe and stable housing through rental assistance and case management.
The importance of the program was brought to light during the July 2019 Point-In-Time count when 22 people were found living on the streets, 9 of which were children. This is the highest count in the last 10 years and the first-time children were encountered.
Community Response: The Community Response Program is a case management and home-visiting program for families referred by Health & Human Services. It is a voluntary, 20-week program that allows families to set goals for needs they might have. The goal of the program is to connect families to resources and long-term supports in Sheboygan County that will help strengthen their family unit.
