PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Alzheimer’s Association
United Way currently invests in their: Awareness, Education & Support program
The Alzheimer’s Association provides outreach, awareness, and support service implementation/delivery to individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, families, professionals and the general community of Sheboygan County.
They achieve this by providing 6 core services:
- Information and Referral including a 24/7 Helpline
- Caregiver Support Groups
- Care Consultation for in-depth problem solving and assessment of needs,
- Education and training for family and professional caregivers, and the general community
- Safety Services which includes comprehensive safety planning and access to safety programs like MedicAlert + SafeReturn
- Early stage services tailored to support those living with the diagnosis.
Fast Facts:
- Currently, over 110,000 people in Wisconsin are living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and more than 194,000 people care for loved ones with the disease. Alzheimer’s Association is here to serve the families in Wisconsin so that no one has to face this disease alone.
- It is estimated for every person with dementia there are 2 unpaid caregivers attending to that individual, often assisting with one or more activities of daily living. This means approximately 5,000 family and friends are assisting a person with dementia.
- 98% of caregivers indicated they "agree" or "strongly agree" when asked “I have a better understanding of steps I need to take next” after they attended Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Education Program.
