Making Spirits Bright

by Emily Rendall-Araujo

Let me interrupt our regularly-scheduled United Way programming to write about a wonderful community organization helping those in need in our community: the Sheboygan County Rotary’s Clubs Making Spirits Bright. In this season of overspending, I encourage you and your families to drive through the FREE holiday light show in Sheboygan’s Evergreen Park and bring a donation of non-perishable food items to support those in need.

I’ve personally driven through the park three times so far this season and plan to several times more before it closes in December 28. The “oohs” and “ahhs” offered by my car-mates during last night’s ride were reason enough to go through a second time immediately.

With the mission “to collect pantry items for the Sheboygan County food pantries and to provide an exciting and affordable quality event,” Making Spirits Bright does just this. This event brought in more than 80,000 items for the Sheboygan County Food Bank in its first two years of operation. The first year’s 40,000 items stocked the pantry shelves for three months. Last year’s 40,000 items lasted six weeks. The need is great, but Sheboygan County’s potential to give is also great.

We have two more weeks to enjoy this great event with our friends and family and support those in need before the end of the year. Pack a few non-perishable nutritious food items and get over to the park!

Food for Tomorrow is one of United Way of Sheboygan County’s current impact investments, focusing on getting nutritious food to those who need it in Sheboygan County.
