Joining the United Way team in the middle of campaign season is the fastest way to learn how organizations and individuals are collaborating to fulfill the needs of our community.
In the first few weeks, I spent a lot of time listening and learning from the team at United Way and other individuals from large companies, small companies and leaders in non-profit organizations.
Through conversing with people from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, I quickly became aware I was surrounded by people who had something in common: the passion to give.
Each person adds value to this community and we choose to give in three different ways.
- Sharing knowledge.
- Giving time or expertise.
- Donating financially.
Each way is equally important depending on the situation and we can make the most positive impact when we work together to achieve future stability for our peers, friends, co-workers, family and ourselves.
Future stability means something different to everyone and all our individual goals fall in one or more of these areas: Education, Income and Health. The United Way staff is committed to collaborating with experts to ensure services and programs are accessible in each of those areas.
Community can be defined by a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. Replace the ‘or’ in that sentence and you have the foundation that United Way stands on.
As the crisp air of autumn surrounds us, my heart fills with warmth as I continue to learn from others on how we can band together to collaborate on solutions that we can all benefit from.
The first event I will be working is Harvest for the Hungry on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, sponsored by Destination Kohler and Sargento Foods.
