Harvest for the Hungry Success

by Jon Doll

Over 1,400 people enjoyed fine dining under the big tent on Tuesday, October 21st at the 3rd annual Harvest for the Hungry event, sponsored by Kohler Co. Hospitality & Real Estate Group and Sargento Foods. The food offerings were prepared by the restaurants of Kohler: American Club, Horse and Plow, Cucina, Woodlake Market, Blackwolf Run, The Immigrant Restaurant, The Wisconsin Room, Whistling Straits and Riverbend. Joining these restaurants as sponsoring organizations were Kitchens of Kohler, Destination Kohler, Dominion Valley Farm LLC, Torke Coffee, Bake Mark, Lakeside Pepsi and Valley Bakers.

Attendees took pleasure in listening to music provided by the SECAP Sargento singers during lunch and Jon Doll and Carl Weinberger during dinner while enjoying Thai pumpkin soup, chili, fresh salads, Mac & Brats, Lasagna, BBQ Chicken Sliders, Pork Pot Roast, Beef Tips, Fall Vegetable Medley plus assorted cookies, cupcakes and pumpkin bars. Of course, the children enjoyed a special menu just for them.

All proceeds from Harvest for the Hungry were donated to the United Way of Sheboygan County for its Food for Tomorrow community impact investment. Since 2011, Food for Tomorrow has helped support programs that help individuals and families who struggle with food security, with an emphasis on healthy food options and education. Organizations receiving Food for Tomorrow funding for programs include Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization for the Farmer’s Market, the Sheboygan County Food Bank and Nourish. These organizations collaborate with each other and other community organizations in providing a free summer meal program, piloting a weekend back pack program, assisting the Farmer’s Markets in Sheboygan and Plymouth serve people who use FoodShare (formerly Food Stamps) to purchase produce at the market, provide Snack Attack at various Boys & Girls Club sites and so much more.

United Way would like to throw a great big shout out and THANK YOU to the Kohler Co. and Sargento employees and volunteers who planned and hosted a fantastic event! Thank you!
