Last fall, Kohler Co., BoardStar and United Way of Sheboygan County partnered to bring an introductory session in non-profit board education. With more than 150 attendees at the three-hour training and excellent feedback, nonprofit board education is coming back to our area again, but this time with more information to share and more time to learn!
The Chamber of Manitowoc County, Lakeshore Community Foundation, Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, United Way Manitowoc County, United Way of Sheboygan County, along with funding by Kohler Company, are pleased to present a Nonprofit Board Education Training series beginning Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Lakeshore Technical College, 1290 North Avenue, Cleveland. Steve Strang, the Managing Director of Pivot (formerly BoardStar), will lead the sessions.
This five-part series was first offered this past spring and is again being offered again at no cost to Lakeshore area nonprofit organizations. Organizations will learn skills related to organizational sustainability, strategic planning, financial health, and fundraising. Each session is presented with a focus on organizational governance, board involvement, and leadership's role in implementing change.
Applicant organizations must be located in Manitowoc or Sheboygan County and have the commitment of the executive director, senior staff person and/or a board member in a leadership position to attend all sessions. Priority consideration will be given to applications which include both a staff and a board member.
Steve Strang, MPA, is the Managing Director of Pivot. Additionally, Steve is a Consultant with Spectrum Nonprofit Services, a national nonprofit strategy firm based in Milwaukee, and Adjunct Instructor at Madison College. His experience within the nonprofit field includes oversight of operations, building strategy, leadership development, and as a nonprofit board member. He earned his BA from Grand Valley State University and MPA from Roosevelt University, both with an emphasis in Public & Nonprofit Management.
Sessions are scheduled for September 13 and 27; October 11 and 25; and November 8. The topics include:
- September 13: Pursuing Nonprofit Sustainability
- September 27: Role of the Board in Strategic Planning
- October 11: Understanding & Assessing Financial Health
- October 25: Taking the Fear Out of Fundraising
- November 8: Roundtable Wrap-Up Discussion
