Take out your pen and mark your calendar for United Way of Sheboygan County’s Day of Caring, which will take place on Thursday, September 14thth. The annual event coincides with the kickoff of the United Way Campaign and wraps up with Taste Sheboygan in the evening. Whether you’re looking to volunteer with your company or organization, family members or friends, Day of Caring gives individuals and companies the opportunity to truly put your hands to work and help those in need in our community. Corporate sponsorship helps to make the day possible.
This annual event begins at the Sheboygan A’s Field with a motivating message from United Way over breakfast. Corporate mascots Moxie (Kohler Company), Brat Man (Johnsonville Sausage), Sarge (Sargento Foods), Captain Clean (Rockline Industries), Gauge (Vollrath Company), and Leo the Chemist (Plastics Engineering Company) will help cheer on volunteers as they divide across the county to a location where groups work on a specific project. Examples of past service projects include landscaping and clean-up of community gardens, painting and cleaning, sorting donations and transforming shelter spaces.
The purpose of Day of Caring is to bring people together to improve lives and strengthen our communities through volunteering. Businesses, organizations, individuals and United Way partner to make a difference. Last year, more than 500 volunteers registered for Day of Caring. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, refreshments and VIP treatment at Taste Sheboygan.
New this year, organizations with a project need can submit their project online at www.uwofsc.org beginning on May 15th. Volunteers will be able to register to help with projects beginning on June 15th.
But, you don’t have to wait until September to make a difference in the lives of everyone in our community, find a volunteer opportunity today at www.uwofsc.org/volunteer. Or, as always, feel free to contact Emily Rendall-Araujo at (920) 458-3425 or emily@uwofsc.org for more details about Day of Caring or any other Volunteer Center event.
