United Way of Sheboygan County has all kinds of reasons to celebrate! Last week, more than 40 project sites benefitted from the help of more than 500 volunteers during Day of Caring. The United Way office got a huge facelift thanks to friends at Kohler, HSA Bank and LTC. The United Way workspace has been in serious need of updates for quite some time. The carpet was original to the building and dated back to 1973. Dulmes Décor has provided support in not only making new carpet affordable, but also working with United Way staff to make the process of carpet installation less burdensome.
Day of Caring was made possible by a number of corporate sponsors, many of whom had mascots in the mascot race, but a special shout out goes to Vollrath, their mascot Gage, Paul Bartelt and his team of 16 volunteers that spent the day at Meals on Wheels. Paul truly sets the “gauge” on how to serve the community. Sheboygan County would not be “Someplace Better” without Vollrath and Paul’s leadership.
This Saturday, Woodlake Market is hosting a Charity Bags Tournament to benefit United Way in honor of their 30th Anniversary. There are festivities throughout the week, but Saturday promises to be fun for the whole family with face painting, bounce house, and much more. The Sheboygan Senior Activity Center is hosting a Volunteer Fair this Wednesday, September 14th from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by on your lunch hour to learn more about the many volunteer opportunities in the community.
Harvest for the Hungry presented by Kohler Company is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18th. Proceeds from the event benefit United Way, while you enjoy a fabulous array of delicious gourmet foods. See uwofsc.org for the full details and to purchase your tickets.
Taste Sheboygan had another successful year. Randy Schwoerer generously puts this event together to benefit United Way. The weather was beautiful, the food was amazing, and it was a great way to celebrate the five hundred plus volunteers that worked hard at more than forty project sites.
As if all this wasn’t enough to celebrate, Emily Rendall-Arajuo, associate director of development and her husband, Andres, welcomed their first child, Frederick Leonidas Arajuo on Saturday, September 10th. Freddie, if he is anything like his parents, will be an asset to the community and the United Way family.
